Turin, robbery of elderly man in Lucento district: 28-year-old arrested

In the Lucento district of the Piedmont city, officers detained a 28-year-old of Moroccan origin for assaulting an elderly man and stealing a gold necklace from him.

Staff from the Madonna di Campagna Police Station reconstructed the incident also thanks to images from surveillance camera systems. The perpetrator, riding a motorised scooter, had approached the victim at the intersection of via Gorresio and corso Potenza. After dismounting the vehicle, he threw the elderly man to the ground and struck him until he managed to take possession of the jewellery he was wearing around his neck. He then fled on board the same vehicle.

Police officers from the local Police Station, during territory-wide checks, traced the suspect a few days later in via Leinì.

The suspect, who was in Italy irregularly, had previously received two decrees ordering his removal from national territory.

The proceedings are in the preliminary investigation phase; the presumption of innocence accordingly applies until a final judgment is passed.
