Arrests for theft against elderly person

According to questure.poliziadistato.it, officers from Turin's Mobile Squad arrested two men in flagrante delicto for burglary against an elderly woman suffering from a serious disabling medical condition. The stolen goods, comprising numerous valuables and cash, were valued at approximately €20,000 and were completely recovered.

The crime occurred in the afternoon several days ago. The perpetrators had contacted the victim by telephone, posing as municipal employees and members of law enforcement. The false communication concerned the identity document of her husband, allegedly used to commit a robbery. Using this pretext, the fraudsters convinced the woman to gather jewellery and money in her home, awaiting the arrival of a purported associate.

One of the two presented himself at the residence as a police officer and stole the items. Investigators, who had been monitoring the movements of both men since their arrival in Turin, stopped the perpetrator minutes after he left the home. The second accomplice was located later near a railway station in the city.

The investigation revealed that the operation had been coordinated by a criminal organisation based in Campania. On the authority of the judicial system, both arrested individuals were taken to Turin's "Lorusso e Cutugno" prison facility. The criminal proceeding is still in the preliminary investigation phase; those under investigation are presumed innocent until final conviction.

State Police emphasise the importance of vigilance regarding suspicious telephone requests concerning traffic accidents, legal proceedings, checks on money or jewellery, or inspections by self-styled public officials. Citizens are advised never to hand over goods to strangers and to immediately contact the Emergency Number 112 in case of doubt, terminating the call and alerting a trusted family member.
