A 63-year-old man shot his wife and son in a residence in Camaiore, in Tuscany, near Lucca. The woman, aged 52, and the boy, aged 24, were hit by a hunting rifle. The perpetrator of the double murder then went to the roof of the residence, where he remained until the arrival of law enforcement.

According to reports from Philenews, after his capture his first words to investigators were: "finally I have freed myself from their presence". Testimonies from relatives and neighbours indicate that tensions had long prevailed in the family.

Four years before the crime, the young man had posted on social media saying: "it's awful to know that your father would rather see you dead than gay". The boy had devoted himself to music and, apparently, the father objected to his sexual identity. The man had complained to acquaintances about the domestic situation and how his wife and son treated him.

On the day of the incident, after another heated argument between father and son, the mother had attempted to defend the boy. Moments later the tragedy occurred.
