Three suspected people smugglers arrested in Crotone following landings on 1 and 4 June
Three men of Sudanese, Egyptian and Syrian origin detained in connection with two landings involving 86 migrants at the port of Crotone.
Arrests in Crotone: three people smugglers in custody following June landings
ANSA Cronaca reports that three suspected people smugglers have been arrested in Crotone in connection with two landings that took place on 1 and 4 June at the port of the city: the first brought 29 migrants ashore, the second 57.
The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Crotone and conducted by the Mobile Squad of the Questura together with officers from the Guardia di finanza Operative Section, gathered statements from some of the migrants that directed investigators towards the three detained men, of Sudanese, Egyptian and Syrian origin.
According to the investigators, the three men would have been responsible for the entire crossing, steering the boats along the route to Italy. The witness statements were said to have been corroborated by the analysis of the migrants' mobile phones.
The three men have been transferred to Crotone Prison, at the disposal of the judicial authorities. The investigation is currently ongoing.
