Police have arrested a man who pretended to be a member of the Carabinieri in order to defraud elderly people in the municipality of Reggello, located in the province of Florence. The individual, exploiting the fake carabiniere technique, deceived an elderly woman and succeeded in taking money from her.
The arrest occurred during an investigation conducted by law enforcement who gathered sufficient evidence to identify and stop the fraudster. The victim, an elderly person, was approached by the suspect who, posing as a military officer, perpetrated the scam.
The technique used falls within the so-called scams targeting the elderly, a criminal phenomenon particularly widespread throughout the national territory. The criminals, often by telephone or in person, present themselves as members of law enforcement or public institutions, inducing victims to hand over cash or valuable objects.
The suspect was arrested and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority for further evaluations regarding his situation.
