Murder in Udine: victim struck in chest, attacker at large
A man of Moroccan origin, born in 1961, was killed in Udine on via Castions di Strada in the late afternoon. According to ANSA Cronaca, the alarm was raised at 19.48, when the victim was returning home with shopping bags.
According to the initial reconstruction by investigators, the suspected attacker lay in wait behind a hedge to ambush him, striking him repeatedly in the chest with a sharp object before fleeing on foot in the surrounding area. Carabinieri seized a screwdriver found next to the body, which appears to bear traces of blood and could be the murder weapon. However, further investigations are ongoing: some elements would suggest the use of a knife as well.
The 118 emergency services personnel who arrived at the scene provided initial care to the man and transported him urgently to Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Udine. His condition appeared serious from the outset: he died shortly after being admitted.
At the scene of the murder, carabinieri from the Provincial Command, personnel from the Scientific Investigations unit, and deputy prosecutor Letizia Puppa attended. The area was cordoned off to allow investigations and the collection of traces and evidence.
The suspected perpetrator is a 32-year-old, also of Moroccan origin and resident in Rive d'Arcano, currently wanted by law enforcement and believed to be potentially armed. Investigators are focusing their attention on the personal relationships between the attacker and the victim's family: the 32-year-old had become infatuated with the victim's sister, a woman aged 38, who went to the scene of the murder and was questioned by investigators.
The woman had ended the relationship approximately one month ago, but the man did not accept the end of the relationship. Three days before the assault, he had presented himself at the woman's workplace in an attempt to meet her; faced with refusal, he made death threats. Investigators are also examining an incident that occurred the day before, when another family member's car was damaged.
Carabinieri are scouring the area, obtaining images from surveillance cameras and gathering statements from those who may have witnessed the assault or the flight of the suspected perpetrator.
