Venice's Mobile Squad has executed a detention order against a 36-year-old man involved in a criminal association aimed at trafficking in narcotic substances that was active in Trapani.

Officers from the Mobile Squad of the Venetian capital stopped a 36-year-old man with a criminal record, recipient of a restrictive measure issued by the Palermo magistracy. The operation resulted from surveillance activity and cross-checks on police information systems.
The detention order was signed by magistrates from the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Appeal in Palermo, criminal enforcement section. The final sentence amounts to eight years in prison for offences related to illegal trafficking in narcotics.
The arrested man, who had been living permanently at the Lido di Venezia, had already come under the attention of lagoon investigators. An investigation by the Anti-Mafia Directorate of Palermo reconstructed his role within a criminal group operating in the Trapani area, engaged in the importation and sale of cocaine and hashish.
The drugs came from Calabria and Campania to be then distributed among professionals and entrepreneurs in the area. The Mobile Squad of the Trapani Police Headquarters conducted the preliminary investigations, subsequently coordinating with their Venice colleagues for the execution of the measure.
At the conclusion of the formalities, the detainee was transferred to the "Santa Maria Maggiore" prison in Venice.
