Authorities have arrested a twenty-year-old Polish citizen at Padua railway station. He is suspected of participating in a scam that forced an elderly woman from Rovigo to hand over jewellery worth over €15,000.

At Padua railway station in north-east Italy, authorities have arrested a twenty-year-old Polish citizen. The man is suspected of participating in a scam against an eighty-five-year-old woman living in the province of Rovigo.

According to what emerged from the investigation, the fraudsters convinced the victim that her son was in critical condition and urgently needed very expensive medical treatment. Seized by panic, the elderly woman handed over jewellery worth an estimated €15,000 to the criminals, equivalent to approximately 64,000 Polish zloty.
