Francesco Imprezzabile, a 29-year-old local police officer, lost his life during the night between Monday and Tuesday in Milan during a pursuit in viale Monza. The driver of the SUV that struck him, a 34-year-old Albanian citizen, has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicular homicide.
The incident began when the warden, together with a colleague, signalled the SUV to stop. The driver did not comply and accelerated, striking Imprezzabile who was riding a scooter. The officer was taken to hospital in critical condition and died shortly afterwards.
The fugitive continued driving until Sesto San Giovanni, where he abandoned the vehicle. Shortly after, he turned himself in at a police station. During questioning, the man admitted that he did not stop at the signal because he was carrying drugs. He also stated that he was sorry for what had happened, but specified that he had not deliberately struck the warden.
The investigation is being conducted by Milan's Mobile Squad.
