The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) arrested a 31-year-old man in M'diq suspected of being involved in planning a terrorist act aimed at seriously damaging public safety and order, according to medias24.com.
According to a BCIJ statement, the suspect is imbued with the extremist ideology of the terrorist organisation ISIS. The operation is part, the institution states, of continuous efforts deployed to neutralise the threats posed by terrorist organisations to the security of the Kingdom and the safety of its citizens.
Initial investigation elements, corroborated by security monitoring operations, established that the suspect had participated in preparing terrorist projects within the framework of "lone-wolf jihad". He is said to have acquired expertise in the manufacture of explosives, with a view to carrying out plans targeting people, public order and vital facilities.
The suspect was placed in custody at the disposal of the judicial investigation conducted by the BCIJ, under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office in terrorism matters. The investigations aim to establish all of his extremist activities and to determine his potential links with terrorist organisations, both at the national and international level.
