Drug baron arrested in Deroua: 85 arrest warrants, weapons and cash seized
A 34-year-old trafficker nicknamed Omrane, who was the subject of more than 85 arrest warrants, was apprehended at dawn in the commune of Oulad Ziane.

The Royal Gendarmerie services of the territorial centre in Deroua placed a drug trafficker with a serious criminal record in custody at the end of last week. According to fr.le360.ma, the operation was conducted under the supervision of the prosecutor's office at the court of first instance in Berrechid, before which the suspect is to be presented to answer the criminal charges brought against him.
The suspect, nicknamed Omrane, is thirty-four years old. He was the subject of more than eighty-five arrest warrants issued jointly by the Royal Gendarmerie and the National Police, and was considered one of the priority targets of the security services in Casablanca and Mediouna.
His arrest was carried out in the early morning by a rapid intervention unit, following a carefully prepared ambush in the douar Chlouh, located in the commune of Oulad Ziane. During this operation, law enforcement seized a sport utility vehicle, edged weapons, substantial sums of money, and a considerable quantity of alcoholic beverages intended for resale.
The newspaper Al Akhbar, in its edition of Monday 1 June, states that "in-depth investigations are currently underway to locate other potential caches of illicit products and identify any accomplices involved in the storage and distribution network".
Omrane had managed to evade the authorities for several years whilst continuing his criminal activities. He primarily targeted traders at weekly markets and committed armed robberies using edged weapons. Legal proceedings had also been opened against him by the Nouaceur brigade for similar offences committed shortly before his apprehension.
This operation is part of a strengthened coordination between the regional commands of the Royal Gendarmerie of Casablanca and Settat, as well as the brigades of Berrechid, Nouaceur and Bouskoura. These joint operations made it possible to dismantle several drug trafficking networks and reduce crime levels in the region.
