Arrest in Morocco of major drug trafficker wanted in Spain
Moroccan police have apprehended Juan Carlos T.B., alias "Moreno", reports h24info.ma citing Spanish newspaper ABC and police sources. The suspect had been on the run for several months after Spanish law enforcement dismantled his criminal network.
The Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking and Organised Crime of the Spanish National Police (UDYCO) describes "Moreno" as the leader of Spain's most powerful cannabis resin distribution network. The dismantling of the organisation resulted in the arrest of more than a dozen individuals and the seizure of more than 10 tonnes of narcotics.
According to UDYCO investigators, the fugitive used the companies of Juan Andrés González Santos to launder proceeds from trafficking. González Santos is the husband of Verónica Hidalgo, a model and Miss Spain 2005. He is sole administrator of the company Artecar Soluciones Gráficas SL and is suspected of having played an active role in trafficking and money laundering operations.
Police reports, based on the exploitation of conversations intercepted via encrypted messaging platforms such as Sky ECC, indicate that González Santos had been paying false salaries and issuing fictitious payslips in favour of network members since at least 2017. These fictitious jobs are said to have enabled funds from drug trafficking to be reintroduced into the legal circuit under the guise of professional activities.
ABC had already cited González Santos in exclusive revelations published on 1 October, before "Moreno"'s arrest in Morocco.
