Electricity fraud in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra: 1,199 cases detected, 26 million DH in damages
The SRM RSK detected 1,199 cases of fraud on the electricity network between January and May 2026, causing damages estimated at over 26 million dirhams.

1,199 electricity frauds in five months in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region
Between January and May 2026, the Water and Electricity Distribution Company of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region (SRM RSK) recorded 1,199 cases of individual fraud on low-voltage electricity networks, according to ecoactu.ma. The irregular consumption detected exceeded 16.2 million kWh, causing financial damages estimated at over 26 million dirhams inclusive of tax, excluding major frauds.
In parallel, 19 cases of fraud were detected on the drinking water network, involving a volume of approximately 30,140 m³ and a loss of revenue estimated at over 336,000 DH inclusive of tax.
Coordinated control operations with authorities
The SRM RSK announced the deployment of targeted control operations, conducted in coordination with local authorities, National Security services and the Royal Gendarmerie. Mixed teams will be tasked with identifying and halting any illegal use of public networks.
A specific mechanism will also be put in place to combat fraudulent practices linked to agricultural irrigation, as well as withdrawals made by certain water tankers at fire hydrants and public drinking fountains.
Legal proceedings at stake
The company recalled that illegal connections and unauthorised withdrawals constitute offences liable to prosecution in accordance with current regulations. Any confirmed case will be subject to appropriate procedures, without prejudice to sanctions provided for by law.
The SRM RSK calls on all users to adopt responsible behaviour and thanks local authorities as well as institutional partners for their collaboration.
