Security operation near Fes uncovers major drugs cache and maritime smuggling equipment
A security operation conducted by Moroccan security agencies at dawn on Saturday resulted in the seizure of 4.1 tonnes of cannabis, alongside four inflatable boats and four marine engines, inside a farm located in the vicinity of the city of Fes, according to Hespress.
The regional judicial police force in Fes conducted this operation in coordination with the General Directorate for National Territory Surveillance (DST), in the early hours of 10 October.
Security personnel found a truck loaded with four tonnes and one hundred kilograms of cannabis inside the rural property, with the main suspect, a woman, arrested on the spot, according to security sources cited by several Moroccan media outlets. Investigations suggest that the seized inflatable boats and marine engines were prepared for use in smuggling operations across the sea.
National security databases revealed that the main suspect was the subject of a previous national arrest warrant in another case related to drug and psychotropic substance trafficking.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two additional individuals believed to have participated in the same operation, bringing the total number of detainees to three individuals, all being held in police custody as part of a judicial investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor.
Investigators are currently working to identify potential networks linked to this operation, both at national and international levels, and to uncover the identities of any other individuals involved in smuggling operations.
The presence of inflatable boats and marine engines inside a property remote from the coast is a central focus of the investigation, with authorities believing that this equipment was intended for transporting drug shipments across maritime routes.
This operation is part of a series of joint operations carried out by the national police and Moroccan intelligence agencies in combating criminal networks involved in international drug trafficking.
