31-year-old suspect arrested in M'diq for terrorist project linked to Daesh
The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) carried out the arrest of a 31-year-old man in M'diq on Saturday morning, according to a statement reported by h24info.ma. The operation was conducted on the basis of intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territory Surveillance (DGST).
The suspect is accused of having prepared and planned a terrorist project aimed at seriously threatening the security of persons, public order and sensitive infrastructure. He adhered to the extremist ideology propagated by the terrorist organisation Daesh.
Initial investigations, supported by surveillance and security monitoring operations, revealed that the individual had engaged in the preparation of terrorist actions within what extremist organisations call "individual jihad". He allegedly sought to acquire skills in the manufacture of explosives.
The suspect was placed in police custody at the disposal of the judicial investigation conducted by the BCIJ, under the supervision of the prosecution handling terrorism cases. The investigation aims to establish all the extremist activities of which he is accused, as well as to verify any possible links with terrorist organisations operating in Morocco or abroad.
