Tangier mayor arrested for alleged electoral fraud following 23 September legislative elections

Arrest of Tangier mayor in investigation into electoral irregularities
According to fr.news.yahoo.com, Mounir Limouri, mayor of Tangier, was apprehended upon arrival at the city's airport, coming from Spain. He is currently being questioned by Moroccan police as part of an investigation into suspected fraud during the 23 September legislative elections.
Five other people have been placed in provisional detention since the investigation was opened. Among them are two officials responsible for supervising polling stations in Tangier during the ballot. One of them was found, on election day, in possession of documents suspected of having been used to manipulate the results.
On Monday 28 September, the Interior Ministry announced the opening of a parallel administrative investigation into these same allegations.
The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), to which the mayor of Tangier belongs, responded via its AM+ MEDIA platform. The party states it wishes to await the conclusions of both investigations before commenting, whilst declaring itself ready to assume the political and organisational consequences if one of its officials is found to be implicated, "regardless of their location or level of responsibility".
The PAM came first in the 23 September legislative elections. It notably includes a deputy in the Tangier-Assilah constituency, Abdellatif El Ghalbzouri. King Mohammed VI is due to shortly appoint a prime minister from this party.
