Evening among friends turns to murder in Témara
A suspended police officer fatally stabbed one of his companions during a private gathering in Témara, according to Aujourd'hui Le Maroc. The incident occurred on Saturday 26 August in the evening in an apartment in the city.
Four men had met that evening to share a few alcoholic drinks. Among them was a man in his fifties, a police officer by profession but suspended from his duties for some time due to professional misconduct that had led to administrative proceedings at the General Directorate of National Security.
Nothing in the early hours of the evening suggested the tragedy to come. A disagreement then erupted between the suspended police officer and one of the other guests. The dispute, initially verbal, escalated into physical confrontation. The two men exchanged punches before the eyes of the two other participants, who either did not attempt to intervene or made little effort to do so.
It was at this moment that the suspect drew a knife and struck his opponent in the abdomen. The wound proved fatal. The victim died at the scene. Emergency services, alerted promptly, could only confirm the death. The body was transferred to Rabat morgue.
The three other men present were arrested on the spot by investigators. The case was handed over to the judicial police unit of the provincial security district of Skhirat-Témara. Taken to the headquarters of the criminal police unit, they were subjected to thorough questioning.
The investigation established that the suspended police officer was responsible for the fatal blow. The two other men were identified as mere witnesses to the facts, present without having taken part in the confrontation.
On Monday 28 August, the three individuals in question were brought before the public prosecutor's office at the Court of Appeal in Rabat. The suspended police officer was placed in preventive detention. His two companions were prosecuted on provisional release.
