Trial of Zineb Kharroubi in Casablanca: defence raises procedural irregularities

According to libe.ma, the defence of Zineb Kharroubi raised several procedural flaws on Monday before the court of first instance in Casablanca. The prosecution, faced with these arguments, requested a delay to respond, resulting in the hearing being postponed to 15 June 2026.
The Franco-Moroccan activist, a member of the "GenZ 212" collective, is facing prosecution for "incitement to commit crimes or offences via electronic means". The charges are linked to the protest movement that swept across Morocco in autumn. Kharroubi, based in France, was absent from this hearing.
The case dates back to 12 February, when she was detained upon arrival at Marrakech airport. Released a few hours later, she nonetheless remained subject to prosecution. The trial officially opened on 23 February before the court of first instance.
The defence committee points to a specific failure: "Ms Kharroubi was not immediately informed of the reasons for her detention upon her arrest in Marrakech." The lawyers also raise a substantive issue, arguing that on reading the documents in the case file, it is impossible to determine "what crime or offence" the defendant allegedly incited.
The justice system accuses her of having shared on social media a "call for gathering" in Paris, as well as recommendations and an official poster of the GenZ 212 collective.
The court will have to rule on these procedural and substantive questions at the next hearing, scheduled for 15 June 2026.
