The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) arrested on Saturday 12 September in Tangier a Danish national of Israeli origin aged 28, subject to an international arrest warrant issued by Danish judicial authorities. A consultation of the file of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) confirmed that the suspect was the subject of a red notice, issued by the central national bureau in Copenhagen. Initial elements of the investigation identify him as one of the fugitives most actively sought by the justice system of Scandinavian countries.
Four categories of serious offences
Danish justice suspicions concern drug trafficking, premeditated murder, kidnapping and unlawful confinement accompanied by violence. The suspect is being held in custody in Tangier pending his presentation before the competent public prosecutor's office, which will determine the judicial follow-up on Moroccan territory.
The central national Interpol bureau in Rabat, attached to the DGSN and responsible for liaison with foreign police forces, has been mandated to inform its Danish counterpart of the arrest. This notification constitutes the first formal step prior to any extradition request.
In Morocco, such a request falls within the remit of the criminal chamber of the Court of Cassation, whose reasoned opinion precedes a royal decree authorising solely the surrender of the suspect to the requesting authorities.
