Salé: two suspects shot dead during arrest for murder, police officer stabbed
A security force officer was struck by a knife blow to the chest on Saturday around noon, as a joint police and gendarmerie unit attempted to capture two brothers in Layayda, a district of Salé. The men were the subject of a warrant in a murder case committed in Aïn Atiq, not far from the capital.
The operation escalated when the fugitives attempted to resist their capture by brandishing bladed weapons. One of them managed to strike the officer in the chest, putting the lives of all those involved at risk. The two men, apparently in a state of extreme agitation, were considered a serious threat to those around them.
To end this escalation and guarantee the physical safety of the officers present, National Security agents opened fire. The two individuals were struck by gunfire. An element of the Royal Gendarmerie also participated in the counter-offensive by firing a shot.
This counter-offensive resulted in the immobilisation of the fugitives and the confiscation of the knives used against the representatives of authority. Seriously injured, the two suspects were transported urgently to a clinic for medical care.
The competent judicial authority took over and is now directing the investigation. The objective is to reconstruct the exact sequence of this forceful operation and to deepen the investigation into the initial crime that motivated the pursuit of these two brothers.
