Essaouira security forces have foiled an attempt at international drug trafficking and seized 11.755 tonnes of hashish in an operation coordinated with the Royal Gendarmerie.

On Tuesday afternoon, officers from the provincial security directorate in Essaouira disrupted a clandestine narcotics export operation. They were able to act on the basis of reliable information transmitted by the DGST.
In a statement, the DGSN specified that this mission was carried out in collaboration with local public authorities and personnel from the Royal Gendarmerie. Three vans bearing forged registration plates were intercepted. The drivers abandoned their vehicles and fled following a pursuit that began in a rural locality near the city.
Inspection of the three vans revealed packages of hashish prepared for export, weighing a total of 11 tonnes and 755 kilogrammes. Ten forged registration plates were also discovered, according to the same statement.
In parallel, in the rural sector known as "Sidi Kaouki", units of the Royal Gendarmerie seized a fourth vehicle, apparently linked to the same drug-trafficking network.
The judicial police are currently conducting investigations under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office. The aim is to uncover all connections within this network and apprehend each of its accomplices.
This seizure demonstrates the determination of the country's security forces to stem cross-border drug and psychotropic substance trafficking.
