Arrest under fire at Dar Kebdani: multi-recidivist trafficker neutralised

A drug trafficker subject to multiple national search warrants opened fire on elements of the Royal Gendarmerie during his arrest in the rural municipality of Dar Kebdani, Driouch province, reports Aujourd'hui Le Maroc. The gendarmes returned fire and overpowered the suspect, with no injuries among their ranks.

The operation was conducted by the gendarmes of Dar Kebdani, in coordination with the regional command of Nador and the Mdiar company, following the location of the suspect who was actively sought at the national level.

An accomplice present at the scene fled at the moment of the intervention. Search and sweep operations were immediately launched in the region to locate him.

The search of the suspect and his belongings resulted in significant seizures: two hunting rifles, 144 cartridges, two belts and a cartridge belt, three knives, handcuffs, a tear gas canister and a balaclava. The gendarmes also seized 31 grammes of cocaine, psychotropic pills, four electronic scales, several mobile phones, storage media and phone top-up cards.

Furthermore, five foreign registration plates, one Moroccan plate, approximately 49,400 dirhams in cash, 25 euros and a luxury car were also seized.

The suspect was not only sought for drug trafficking: he was also targeted for human smuggling and suspected of wilful homicide by firearm. The investigation continues under the supervision of the competent attorney general's office, whilst the search for the accomplice who fled continues.
