Fatal shooting in Fort-de-France: 21st homicide of the year in Martinique
A 40-year-old man was killed and another wounded by gunfire in a garage in Bas Maternité, Fort-de-France. This is the 21st homicide recorded in Martinique since the beginning of the year.
Shooting in a Dillon garage: one dead, one wounded in Fort-de-France
A 40-year-old man was shot dead during the night of 24 to 25 September, around 1:30 a.m., in a garage in the Bas Maternité sector in Fort-de-France, according to rci.fm. A second victim, aged around twenty, was struck by a bullet in the thigh.
The gunman entered the establishment before opening fire on the two men present. The deceased victim, described as well known in the neighbourhood, was identified by law enforcement. The assailant allegedly stole his neck chains before fleeing the scene.
The wounded man was evacuated to Fort-de-France University Hospital; his condition is not life-threatening. The public prosecutor's office took charge of the investigation. The person responsible for the shots remains at large.
This is the 21st homicide recorded in Martinique since the beginning of the year, the 20th committed with a firearm and the 14th occurring in a police zone.
A joint operation conducted a few hours earlier
A few hours before the shooting, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., a major joint operation by police and gendarmes was conducted in this same Dillon sector. Narcotics were discovered and several fines issued for consumption, but no arrests were made. The operation concluded with drone support.
Contrary to information circulating on social media, no shots were fired at law enforcement during this intervention.
