An individual was taken into custody after killing a subofficial of the National Police inside an illegal establishment located on Paseo Colón, in Cercado de Lima.
Surveillance footage, which RPP had access to, shows the moment when the police officer struggles with a person. During the dispute, the attacker seizes his service weapon and shoots him at close range.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning inside the nightclub that was operating irregularly. The victim, who was off-duty, had apparently entered the venue moments before the confrontation.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division of Cercado de Lima collected the recordings as the main evidence in the case. In the sequences it is clearly seen how the attacker takes the uniformed officer's weapon and fires the fatal shot.
The authorities have not disclosed the identity of the deceased or the detainee, although they confirmed that the accused is already in the hands of the Public Prosecutor's Office. An investigation is underway to determine whether there were other people involved in the incident.
The establishment where the crime occurred will be intervened by the municipal authorities for operating without the corresponding permits. Residents of the sector had reported on repeated occasions the presence of illegal bars operating during early morning hours in the Paseo Colón area.
The PNP will intensify operations in the area to dismantle establishments operating irregularly that could constitute focal points for crime.
