Agents of the Criminal Investigation Division (Divincri) of Chiclayo arrested Jaime Brayan Laura Espinoza (22), alias "Peter", identified as the perpetrator of the murder of university student Flor Margarita Bolívar Pinares (20) in the Lima district of San Juan de Lurigancho, reports diariocorreo.pe.

The detainee was found in the vicinity of the Poncoy human settlement, in the district of Monsefú, where he was hiding after fleeing Lima days after committing the crime.

The attack outside a chapel

The incident occurred on the night of 25 September 2026, outside the María de Nazareth chapel, in San Juan de Lurigancho. According to the investigation, Laura Espinoza intercepted the young woman with the intention of robbing her of her belongings. When the victim resisted, he attacked her with extreme violence, inflicting multiple stab wounds that caused severe cuts to her neck and left arm. Bolívar Pinares died from blood loss in the public street.

After the attack, the accused fled in a motorcycle taxi with no visible licence plate. He subsequently moved the vehicle to a garage in the La Victoria district, where he carried out modifications to make identification difficult.

The victim had come to Lima from Ancash to study Psychology. "No one has helped my sister. We have called Bayóvar Police several times, but they have not answered. My sister was in agony for more than half an hour," said Beatriz Bolívar, the young woman's sister, in tears.

Human intelligence alert enabled capture

The suspect's location was achieved thanks to an informant who alerted police to the presence of an individual of slight build, recently arrived from Lima after participating in a deadly robbery in San Juan de Lurigancho, who was allegedly selling drugs in Monsefú.

The operation was headed by PNP Colonel Luis Revilla Plasencia, commanding officers of Divincri Chiclayo. At the time of his arrest, Laura Espinoza was carrying 71 "ketes" of cocaine base paste.

He was detained for the offences of aggravated robbery with resulting death and illicit drug trafficking. Security cameras recorded the moment when the accused got out of a motorcycle taxi, the vehicle in which he later escaped with an accomplice.
