The victim was identified by Peru's National Police as Juan Burgos Imán. The man was shot whilst parking his vehicle to pick up passengers at the intersection of 1 de Mayo avenue and Antigua Panamericana Sur, near the Las Brisas bridge.
Witnesses at the scene indicated that a criminal arrived on a motorcycle, got off the vehicle and fired several shots at Burgos Imán, causing his immediate death. The attacker quickly fled on the same motorcycle with an accomplice.
Forensic experts found 11 bullet casings at the crime scene.
So far, LIPETSA drivers have not specified for how long they will extend the suspension of their services.
As an initial hypothesis, authorities are exploring the possibility that the crime is related to extortion payments from the company. Investigations continue to clarify the circumstances of the case.
