Bus driver from Urbanittos shot dead on Central Avenue

A driver for the Urbanittos minibus company was murdered with three gunshots on Tuesday on Central Avenue in San Juan de Lurigancho, according to infobae.com. Security cameras in the area recorded the entire sequence of the attack.

The victim was identified as Jean Pierre Rodríguez Núñez, 23 years old. He was driving a vehicle on the route between Jicamarca and the stop at Canto Grande 10 when he was attacked.

The footage shows a man who got out of the vehicle and pulled a firearm equipped with a silencer from a backpack. The attacker approached from the passenger side and fired three shots at Rodríguez Núñez. The window on that side was open at the time. Witnesses indicated that the fare collector for the unit was in that location, which is why the vehicle showed no visible bullet impacts in that area.

After the attack, members of the municipal police and bystanders transported the driver to a nearby hospital, where his death was confirmed.

A second camera captured a man wearing a white polo shirt in the vicinity of the location. According to the footage, the attacker crossed a passageway seconds after the shooting and handed over the weapon to this second individual. The man in the white polo shirt placed the weapon in a backpack and left in the opposite direction.

Before the crime, the accomplice had left a bicycle parked near the pavement. The hitman used the vehicle to flee down Los Cirujanos street after transferring the weapon. The available cameras in the area would allow authorities to reconstruct part of the escape route of those involved.

The incident occurred in the context of a series of attacks against public transport workers in Lima, despite the state of emergency declared in the capital amid an escalation of extortion. Authorities do not rule out that the crime is linked to threats against transport operators who refuse to pay "quotas".
