An operation carried out by law enforcement officers in the Villa El Salvador district culminated in the dismantling of a criminal organisation dedicated to extorting small businessmen and shopkeepers in the Lima south cone. The procedure resulted in five people apprehended and two others injured.

The raid was executed at a property that functioned as an operations centre for the criminal group. At the location, officers seized various electronic devices—including mobile phones and computing equipment—as well as pistols that were presumed to be used to intimidate their victims.

According to what was published by Diario Ahora, members of this network demanded periodic payments, colloquially known as "gotas", from merchants established in the area. This criminal modality has become one of the main threats to economic activity in the districts of southern Lima.

Following the intervention, those arrested were transferred to police facilities to begin legal proceedings before the Public Ministry. The authorities continue investigations to determine if there are other people linked to this criminal structure.
