Colombian fugitive from 'La Cordillera' arrested in Lima with firearms and synthetic drug equipment

A Colombian citizen with two outstanding international arrest warrants and wanted for breaking out of a prison in his country was arrested in Lima by agents of the National Police of Peru (PNP), official sources reported on Thursday, according to infobea.com.

The Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirincri) of the PNP identified the detainee as Juan Alejandro Galiano, 27 years old, known by the alias 'Colocho'. He was arrested alongside a French citizen identified by the alias 'Franchua'.

Both are being investigated for extortion, contract killing and offences linked to illegal drug trafficking (TID).

During the operation, authorities found ammunition, improvised firearms, a manual press, sealers, scales and metal moulds "allegedly intended for the manufacture of synthetic drugs", the Dirincri detailed.

Colonel Roger Cano, head of the Robbery Investigation Division, confirmed the detention to broadcaster RPP and stressed that 'La Cordillera' is considered a terrorist organisation in Colombia, where it operates in forced prostitution, human trafficking, illegal drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and extortion.

"This individual fled his country because he has two arrest warrants for the crimes of murder and illegal trafficking of weapons. He is also a fugitive from a penitentiary facility", Colonel Cano stated.

Galiano entered Peruvian territory using a false identity and rented a property in Lima from where, according to investigations, he sought to expand the influence of his organisation.

"Based on the evidence and material items we found on him, we can determine that this individual was already branching out the criminal activities of his criminal organisation 'La Cordillera' here in Peru", Cano said.

The police official indicated that Galiano will be investigated and sentenced in Peru for illegal drug trafficking, illegal possession of firearms and extortion. Once his sentence in Peruvian territory is served, he will be extradited to Colombia to face charges recorded in that country.
