Four members of the same family were shot dead on the evening of Thursday, 4 June at the Santa Teresita human settlement in the district and province of Sullana, Piura region. According to rpp.pe, the attack was carried out by four armed individuals who arrived on motorcycles.
The crime occurred on block seven of Pasaje Unión, where the family lived. Neighbours reported that the unknown attackers fired more than ten times before fleeing in an unknown direction. Security cameras at the residence recorded the attack.
In addition to the four deceased, other family members were injured and were taken to Sullana Hospital for medical attention. A 12-year-old adolescent was also hit by the gunfire and remains under medical care.
Among the victims is a 15-year-old minor. His aunt recounted that the adolescent was at the residence visiting his grandmother and was playing with his mobile phone alongside a friend when the shooting started.
"As usual, he came to visit my mother. He was playing and innocently was there without knowing," the woman said.
The aunt added that the boy tried to hide from the attackers, but one of them pursued him. "He took his life, they shot him without mercy. They didn't even notice he was a minor," she said.
The family member noted that her mother sells vegetables and that she never had conflicts with anyone nor was a victim of extortion. "We didn't suspect anything because we don't have any problems with anyone. We don't know anything, why it would have happened," she concluded.
General Daniel Jares, head of the Piura Police Region, stated at a press conference that the four perpetrators of the crime are foreign nationals. "The four subjects who participated in this criminal act are of foreign nationality," declared the senior official of Peru's National Police.
Following the quadruple homicide, Jares announced the reinforcement of security measures in the area. He reported that individuals circulating on motorcycles with dark helmets would be stopped and that operations would be carried out against foreign nationals in irregular situations with a view to their expulsion. "We are not going to leave here in Sullana until we clear this up and make arrests. Otherwise, I will place my position at your disposal," the general stressed.
