A criminal lost his life and two others were wounded in the early hours of this day during a police pursuit on the Southern Panamerican Highway, according to exitosanoticias.pe. The operation, which began in Villa El Salvador and ended in San Juan de Miraflores, allowed officers to recover the stolen vehicle.

According to the police report, the three suspects were detected at kilometre 21 of the Southern Panamerican Highway whilst allegedly stealing a red-coloured car parked on the roadway. Upon noticing the presence of police officers, the individuals fled in the stolen vehicle.

The escape triggered a pursuit and an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and officers. The confrontation extended to another section of the highway, where police managed to intercept those involved.

The driver of the stolen car died after sustaining bullet wounds. His two alleged accomplices were wounded during the confrontation and transported to María Auxiliadora hospital, where they remain with their condition listed as reserved.

Forensic experts counted eight bullet casings in the surroundings of the recovered vehicle. Officers from the National Police and representatives from the Public Ministry cordoned off the area to carry out the corresponding procedures. The body was subsequently transported to the Central Morgue in Lima.

The authorities have at their disposal footage from a security camera operated by the Lima Municipality installed on the roadway, which could help clarify the circumstances of the theft and identify any additional accomplices.

Traffic on the Southern Panamerican Highway, at the level of kilometre 56, remained restricted for more than an hour during police procedures before being reopened.
