Ten fifth-year secondary students from Liceo Naval Almirante Guise remain detained at the San Borja police station after the parents of a 16-year-old teenager filed a report of alleged sexual violence, according to infobae.com. The minors were transferred from the school to the police station and subsequently taken to Forensic Medicine to carry out the corresponding proceedings.
The director of the Metropolitan Lima Regional Education Authority initially stated that the students would remain under detention for 48 hours. Minister for Women María Seminario did not specify the exact duration of the intervention.
The Seventh Family Public Prosecutor's Office of Lima is handling the case and evaluating the information gathered by the National Police of Peru. The Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that ten students were transferred to the police station, a figure that differs from the eight reported by Seminario in the information received by her office.
Seminario indicated that the Ministry for Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP) activated psychological and legal assistance for the victim and their family once they became aware of the report. Regarding the forensic medical report, the minister refused to provide details: "I cannot provide the full report due to confidentiality," she stated.
The MIMP head called for the process to move forward swiftly and for proceedings to prioritise the protection of the teenager. "We have to make this quick, to have a quick ruling to avoid re-victimisation of this teenager," she said.
Seminario also called for caution in the dissemination of information about those involved and described as serious the circulation on social media of names and images that would allow the minors to be identified.
The MIMP makes available to victims, family members and witnesses the Line 100, a free and confidential service that provides information on protection measures, psychological assistance and routes for filing reports. The ministry also operates Women and Family Emergency Centres, which offer psychological support, legal advice and social assistance.
In case of emergency, the National Police of Peru can be contacted by dialling 105 or by visiting the nearest police station. Cases of violence in the school environment can also be reported confidentially on the SíseVe platform run by the Ministry of Education.
