A businessman involved in selling pastry supplies was kidnapped on Wednesday night on Street 29 in the El Trébol sector, in Los Olivos, near Avenida Angélica Gamarra. According to infobae.com, a group of four armed people intercepted him outside his own premises and put him into a black Kia car with no number plate.
Security cameras in the area recorded the exact moment of the intervention. The footage shows the businessman walking on the pavement alongside two employees when the vehicle stopped and three men got out to restrain him by force. Within seconds, they put him in the car and left the scene.
"They came in a car here and got out... there were three men and a woman," said a family member of the victim in statements collected by Exitosa. The family member clarified that the woman remained at the steering wheel throughout the operation. "All armed, they were armed. It was a Kia car, black, no registration," he added.
The two employees who were accompanying the businessman moved away from the scene following the kidnappers' intervention. The street where the incident occurred has an entrance gate that, at the time of the attack, was open, which facilitated both the entry and exit of the vehicle.
National Police track the captive to Punta Negra
The Kidnapping Division of the National Police of Peru (PNP) took charge of the investigation from the early hours. Following a lead, agents from the specialist unit reached Punta Negra, where preliminary information suggests that the criminal group held the businessman captive on a property in that area.
According to the report by 24 Horas cited by infobae.com, it emerged that the authorities may have rescued the victim, although at the time of the reports no official confirmation had been issued. At the time of the first publications, the businessman had been in captivity for more than ten hours.
The investigation includes the review of security recordings that captured different moments of the operation, with the aim of establishing the route followed by the car after leaving Street 29.
The family awaits a call that does not come
The family members filed a formal complaint with the National Police. However, as of the last available reports, they had not received calls or messages from those responsible for the kidnapping.
"No, not yet, not yet. Nothing. We are waiting for the call, but still nothing," said the family member consulted by the media.
The businessman's mobile phone remained active for a few hours after the abduction, then switched off, a circumstance that increased the concern of those around him.
The family member also alerted about unusual banking movements in the businessman's accounts. "They are emptying all his accounts. Large banking transfers, they are large. Since he is responsible for all administration," he said. Transfers made in the name of a woman were also detected.
Background: robbery by masked men a week before
The family business has been operating in the market for more than ten years, with a presence in northern Lima. According to the victim's circle, the businessman is responsible for more than 50 per cent of the business's income.
A week before the kidnapping, one of the business's premises suffered a robbery. A group of masked people entered the establishment, took items and threatened those inside. The family members noted that this background is part of the circumstances that are now generating concern, although they did not confirm a direct connection between that incident and the abduction.
The businessman's associates indicated that they had not received threats or extortion messages against the company before the kidnapping. They did not rule out, however, that the victim may have received communications of that kind personally without informing those around him.
The search continues under the charge of the Kidnapping Division, whilst the family members await updates on the location and health condition of the businessman.
