Man shot dead in front of his family in Los Estibadores, Callao

A 37-year-old man was shot dead with at least eight gunshots in front of his wife and children as he was returning to his home in Callao, according to exitosanoticias.pe. The attack occurred around 10 o'clock at night in the area known as Los Estibadores.
The victim was identified as Carlos León. Two men travelling on a motorcycle intercepted him between Tristán and Las Palmeras streets, a few metres from a park with football pitches where several people were carrying out sporting activities at that time. One of the occupants got off the vehicle, drew a weapon and fired directly at León.
Neighbours in the sector said they heard more than eight shots during the attack. A resident who spoke with Exitosa described the scene afterwards: the victim's wife remained at his side trying to help him.
"His wife was holding his head, thinking that perhaps he was alive," the neighbour recounted, adding that León was known in the area. The same source warned about the security conditions in the sector: "In January they also killed a young man. They threw him out of a car and killed him. There is no security here."
Officers from the National Police and forensic experts from the Crime Scene Unit arrived at the location to begin proceedings. Another resident pointed out that the officers arrived between five and ten minutes after the crime, although she questioned the lack of regular patrols in the area.
"It's strange, because they never do patrols here," the neighbour said.
The National Police launched investigations to determine the circumstances of the homicide and identify those responsible. Among the initial hypotheses is an alleged settling of scores, although the authorities also do not rule out that the crime is linked to extortion related to the construction sector. Proceedings continue to clarify the motive.
