Joint operation mobilises 540 personnel in critical zones of North Lima
More than 540 security personnel took up various positions across North Lima in a broad joint operation, according to larazon.pe. The intervention included 400 officers from the National Police of Peru (PNP) and 140 members of the Armed Forces, who carried out patrol work, sweeps and operational intelligence activities.
Interior Minister César Astudillo Salcedo personally directed the operation from the Independencia PNP Police Station. The action was executed under the framework of the current state of emergency and aimed to reinforce the presence of the State in zones classified as critical within North Lima.
Findings at night-time establishment: firearm, dynamite and motorcycles seized
One of the main intervention sites was a night-time establishment where officers conducted identity checks on 40 foreign nationals. At the location, an armed firearm, four sticks of dynamite and motorcycles were found, all placed at the disposal of the authorities for corresponding investigations.
Minister Astudillo highlighted the preparedness of police personnel and emphasised the coordination achieved with the Armed Forces. He stated that these operations are aimed at "striking criminal organisations and activities, recovering spaces and strengthening citizen security".
Operations will continue in Lima and other regions
The Interior Ministry reported that this type of intervention will continue to be executed in both Lima and other regions of the country, with deployments focused on points identified as priorities for prevention and control work.
The major operation adds to others carried out in recent weeks. In August, a previous operation in the same area resulted in the intervention of around 400 people, the dismantling of six alleged criminal gangs and the rescue of more than 70 foreign women who, according to the authorities, had been victims of human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation.
Ecuadorian citizen detained at airport with Peruvian documentation
Within the framework of parallel security actions, the National Superintendence of Migration prevented the departure from the country of an Ecuadorian citizen who was attempting to travel to Spain with Peruvian documentation. The case was detected during migration control at Jorge Chávez International Airport, where inspectors identified inconsistencies in the interview with the passenger. The competent authorities assumed responsibility for the case to determine the responsibilities involved.
The authorities indicated that operations will continue as part of the strategy aimed at reinforcing the principle of authority, preventing crime and recovering control of zones considered critical in the face of advancing criminality.
