Adolescent detained for attempted minibus arson in Cercado de Lima
A 17-year-old minor was captured on Avenida Enrique Meiggs, in Cercado de Lima, after allegedly attempting to set fire to a stationary public transport vehicle, reported rpp.pe.
Colonel PNP Sergio Tapia Oviedo, head of the North 3 Public Order and Security Division, stated that two individuals arrived at the location on a motorcycle. One of them got down carrying a jerry can with the apparent intention of setting the minibus on fire.
A driver who was resting in the rear of his vehicle noticed the situation and drove out to pursue the suspects in his unit. During the pursuit, he alerted PNP officers who were in the vicinity.
"At the intersection of José Granda with 12 de Octubre, the driver who was pursuing alerts the police. Then, a collision occurs between the minibus and the motorcycle and, at that moment, the police personnel and Serenazgo personnel intervene," Tapia Oviedo stated.
The minor was apprehended and captured on the spot. The motorcycle driver managed to flee.
According to initial police investigations, the adolescent allegedly received S/100 as payment for carrying out the attack. Authorities link the incident to an alleged criminal gang dedicated to extortion that, days before, had allegedly sent threats to the transport company demanding payments under the name La Federación.
