The National Police of Peru detained a 13-year-old adolescent as the suspected material perpetrator of the murder of a public transport conductor in El Callao, a port province adjacent to Lima, according to latinus.us citing official sources on Saturday.

The victim, a 60-year-old bus driver who worked for the company Perla Argentina S. A. (PASA), was attacked early Friday while picking up passengers at the intersection of 2 de Mayo and Miroquesada avenues. According to the police account, the assailant shot him seven times before fleeing with an accomplice on a motorcycle or bicycle.

In an initial intervention, officers arrested in flagrante delicto A.O.G., 34 years old, known as "Negra" and identified as the leader of the gang "Los Calacos Injertados", along with a 14-year-old minor. Hours later, operational intelligence work allowed investigators to identify the suspected direct perpetrators of the crime.

General Olger Benavides Ponce, chief of the Callao Police Region, confirmed to state media TV Perú that the suspected material perpetrator of the shooting was the 13-year-old. A 17-year-old adolescent also implicated attempted to conceal evidence by throwing his mobile telephone onto the roof of his residence when authorities arrived; a police drone recovered the device, which contained extortive messages linked to the incident.

Benavides noted that security cameras were instrumental in identifying the suspects. In one of the images, one of them is seen wearing the same trainers found later during the operation in one of the residences.

During the raid, police seized a pistol, mobile telephones, a bicycle and the trainers allegedly used at the time of the attack. The adolescents were taken to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Directorate in Callao to continue with proceedings in the case.

The incident fits a pattern of extortion that has spread in Lima and El Callao over the past two years: small gangs demand payments under threat from public transport drivers, many of them operating informally.
