Motorcyclist taxi driver shot in Pedregal whilst dropping off his daughter: the gunman fled on foot
A 48-year-old motorcyclist taxi driver was shot dead in front of his daughters in the Pedregal sector of San Juan de Lurigancho, according to infobae.com. The victim, identified as Leoncio Pariona Vargas, had arrived in his vehicle to drop off one of his daughters when an alleged hitman attacked him and fled the scene on foot.
Neighbours in the area transported Pariona Vargas to a hospital on Avenida Canto Grande, where he died as a result of bullet wounds. The man leaves behind a wife and children; his family members are demanding that authorities identify and capture those responsible.
The crime occurred in a context of threats and alleged extortive payments directed at the transport association to which the victim belonged. Residents of Pedregal told América Televisión that the extortionists do not limit their demands to motorcyclist taxi drivers, but also pressure other transport workers and merchants in the sector, who must hand over money to different groups.
Colleagues of Pariona Vargas in the motorcyclist taxi driver association refused to give statements for fear of reprisals, according to sources consulted in the area.
At the crime scene, police collected up to eight bullet casings, evidence that will be analysed in proceedings aimed at reconstructing the attack and establishing the exact circumstances of the murder.
Residents of Pedregal took the opportunity of the case to demand the installation of video surveillance cameras. They assure that the criminals themselves prevent them from installing such devices on their own. "All we are asking is for the mayor to put security cameras up because the area is in a real state", said a resident of the zone.
Neighbours also reported that several murders have been recorded in the same sector so far this year. Some merchants fear opening their businesses and other residents claim they no longer travel with peace of mind through the neighbourhood's streets.
The Criminal Investigation Department (Depincri) took charge of investigations to clarify the murder and identify those responsible. The family of Leoncio Pariona Vargas is demanding justice whilst residents of Pedregal are calling for concrete measures against the extortion and violence affecting the community.
