Fight at Ataura celebration ends with stabbing and detention
A Santiago celebration in the Ataura district, Jauja, culminated in a violent collective fight that left eight people injured and one man detained, according to hytimes.pe. Among the wounded is Luis Ricardo Acero Monge, 58 years old, who received three stab wounds to the abdomen.
The origin of the conflict, according to statements collected by the Police, was a dispute over 20 soles intended to buy beer. Jennifer and Cinthia Rojas Enciso stated that a young woman from the Acero family, the party host, asked them for that amount for a case of beer. The sisters only bought one bottle.
A member of the Acero family allegedly insulted the visitors with the words: "bloody paupers, why do you come to drink if you don't have money". Minutes later, Jennifer and the other young woman clashed in the communal hall bathroom with pulling and scratching. Jennifer had a cut on her cheekbone which, according to her account, was caused by the edge of a broken bottle.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, the sisters called the Police. The first officers arrived at the scene, but neither party went to the police station.
Second fight and conflicting accounts
Ten minutes later, Miguel Ernesto Rojas Cañari, 56 years old, father of Jennifer, arrived at the venue. Upon seeing his daughter injured, he confronted the young man blamed for the assault. According to his daughters' version, the young man threw a punch at his face, which allegedly triggered a second, larger brawl.
Sunita Elida Acero Rafael and her brother Jesús Florentino Acero Rafael stated that Rojas Cañari engaged in a fistfight with their father, Luis Ricardo Acero Monge, knocked him to the ground, and while he had him beneath his body, drew a silver table knife and delivered three stab wounds. Jesús Acero told the Police he saw Rojas Cañari get up with a bloodstained knife in his right hand.
Rojas Cañari's daughters offered an opposite account: their father had been attacked by members of the Acero Monge family and acted in self-defence. When the Police asked them directly whether they had seen their father assault Acero Monge, both answered that they had not.
Acero Monge suffered an open abdominal trauma and was urgently transferred to the Domingo Olavegoya hospital in Jauja.
Detained man with head trauma
During the brawl, the two groups attacked each other mutually with chairs, stones, and bottle edges. The final toll was eight injured. Rojas Cañari, who also presented mild cranioencephalic trauma, was detained as the suspected perpetrator of the attack with a white weapon.
Statements from both families were collected on Sunday, 13 September at the Apata Rural Police Station, in the presence of deputy prosecutor José Antonio Bastidas Cajahuaringa, of the Corporate Criminal Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Jauja.
