Agents of Peru's National Police arrested a suspected drug trafficker after infiltrating his residence dressed as mascots of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Agents of Peru's National Police succeeded in capturing a suspected drug distributor using an unconventional method: they infiltrated the suspect's residence dressed in official costumes from the world football championship tournament.
The uniformed officers discovered that the wanted man was a passionate follower of the beautiful game. This circumstance allowed them to approach the residence of the individual, considered potentially dangerous, without raising suspicion. Two of the agents wore the suits of the promotional animated characters of the tournament: Mapl the Tapir and Klats the Bald Eagle.
"Thanks to the intelligence work carried out by the team, we confirmed that the person to be captured was a football fanatic who lives and breathes with the fever of the World Cup," explained a police spokesman in statements reported by Daily Mail.
"For this reason, we decided to disguise the members of my unit with the World Cup mascots in order to approach without generating alarm and proceed with the detention," added the same official.
The operation unfolded in a housing complex located in Lima. The officers first burst through the main entrance of the building. Once inside, they had to chase the suspect before being able to apprehend him on the upper floor.
During the search of the property, the agents seized a firearm, a knife and various narcotic substances. The detainee remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities whilst investigations continue into his alleged involvement in the illicit drug trafficking in Peru's capital.
