Six minors from Liceo Naval Almirante Guise sent to Maranguita for alleged sexual assault
A Lima court ordered four months of preventive detention for six adolescents investigated for the sexual assault of a 16-year-old classmate.

The Third Family Court of Lima ordered the immediate transfer of six adolescents from Liceo Naval Almirante Guise to the Lima Centre for Juvenile Diagnosis and Rehabilitation—known as Maranguita—where they will remain for four months of preventive detention while the investigation continues into the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old classmate. According to infobae.com, the measure was issued by Judge Roxana Isabel Palacios Yactayo at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the transfer of the minors was carried out after eleven o'clock in the evening on Friday last week.
The four-month period corresponds to the maximum set by law for this precautionary measure, the Judicial Authority clarified. The Prosecutor's Office request applied only to six of the ten students initially detained following the complaint; the other four will continue the process in freedom, following individual assessments conducted during the preliminary proceedings.
Not a conviction: exceptional precautionary measure
Preventive detention does not constitute a conviction. Criminal law specialist Javier López Romaní, lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the University of Piura, clarified that "the Adolescent Criminal Responsibility Code provides for precautionary measures such as preventive detention, of exceptional use, to ensure the aims of the investigation". For the judge to authorise the measure, Provincial Prosecutor Mariano de la Torre Hernández had to establish the existence of well-founded and serious evidence against the investigated individuals and that the infraction attributed to them permits detention as a sanction.
During the 120 days in Maranguita, the investigation will not pause. Expert examinations and proceedings will continue to establish what role each adolescent may have played in the events reported on 15 September, which occurred inside the bus transporting the futsal team from Surco.
Preliminary proceedings and statements
The resolution became known after the 48-hour detention period expired and following the first prosecution proceedings. Before the court decision, statements were collected from those involved, family members and police officers, as well as medical-legal examination and the victim's testimony via Gesell Chamber.
Regarding the four adolescents who will not be detained, the lawyer for the victim's family, Jorge Petrozzi, noted that these pupils would not be considered as direct or indirect participants in the reported assault.
Protective measures for the victim
In parallel, the Twelfth Family Court of Lima issued measures to protect the physical and psychological integrity of the 16-year-old adolescent. The ruling prohibited those investigated from all contact with the victim through platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook, ordered mandatory psychological therapy for those involved, and arranged for the sector police station to conduct weekly periodic patrols at the student's residence.
The family had further reported that the adolescent had been suffering mistreatment, ridicule and racial insults from fellow pupils prior to the assault. These antecedents expanded questions about what the school knew about the student's situation and how it responded to previous episodes of harassment.
Institutional consequences and history at the establishment
Following the complaint, the Navy preventively removed the school's director, a teacher and the football coach from their posts, whilst other institutions initiated proceedings to review compliance with school protocols.
The case also brought to light previous instances of violence linked to Liceo Naval Almirante Guise. An incident came to light that occurred during a promotion trip to Punta Cana, when a student reported being a victim of sexual assault; one of those involved in that case received eight months in a juvenile detention centre.
School violence figures in the country
The current case once again focuses attention on a problem that extends beyond a single institution. Between January and August 2026, the SíseVe system registered more than 11,000 reports of physical, psychological and sexual violence against pupils in the country.
With the transfer of the six adolescents to Maranguita, a new phase of the process begins. The authorities must establish what role each one played in the events of 15 September and whether there were other responsibilities before, during or after the assault reported inside the school bus.
