Murder suspects of candidate Susy Aponte to remain detained for 15 days
A judge extended the preliminary detention of two arrested individuals in the murder of regional candidate Susy Aponte, which occurred in Caraz during a campaign event.

The two suspects arrested for the murder of broadcaster and regional candidate Susy Aponte, known as 'China Polo', will remain in preliminary detention for up to 15 days, according to information provided by the Public Prosecutor's Office, as reported by elcomercio.com.
A judge extended the arrest period while proceedings in the case advance, including the collection of evidence at the crime scene, the review of security camera footage and interrogations of witnesses and injured persons.
The detainees were identified as Luis Iván Obispo Díaz, of Venezuelan nationality and alleged author of the shots, and Ronald José Toro Artila, of Peruvian nationality.
Aponte was shot dead on Saturday while participating in a campaign event at a market in Caraz. She was seeking to become governor of Áncash, a region located in the northern Andes of Peru.
During the period of detention, the Public Prosecutor's Office must determine whether to request preventive imprisonment for the suspects or order their release with restrictions.
The candidate had gained prominence on social media through a complaints programme in which she questioned corruption cases in Áncash. Before her death, she posted a message on social media in which she accused Víctor Revoredo, director of Criminal Investigation of the National Police, of having ordered an attack against her.
Aponte had also reported alleged links between police chiefs and the criminal organisation Los Pulpos, and stated that she had received warnings about possible threats from three Peruvian prisons.
Revoredo was reassigned from his position through a supreme resolution published on Sunday; he will take the position of director of International Affairs of the National Police. According to EFE, 19 other generals and three lieutenant generals were also reassigned following the appointment of Fredy López as the new commander general of the institution.
