Officers from the Vitarte Police Station detained PNP non-commissioned officer Luis Felipe Sandoval Díaz on Saturday night, accused of killing his wife Gilma Mariela Peralta Muñoz, according to a report by pagina3.pe.
Sandoval Díaz is originally from Huánuco and lived in Lima for work reasons. There he married Peralta Muñoz, who was from Amazonas, just a few weeks before the incident, according to statements made by the victim's relatives to the media.
Neighbours alerted the police to a fight with gunshots inside a residence on Nevada Street in the Florida 1 association. Upon accessing the third floor, officers found the 36-year-old woman without vital signs. Non-commissioned officer Sandoval was at the scene and was detained immediately.
During the intervention, officers seized a firearm that will be subjected to ballistics examination to determine whether it is the murder weapon.
The exact circumstances of Gilma Peralta's death remain under investigation by a prosecutor and officers from the Criminal Investigation Directorate of Santa Anita. Crime Scene and Ballistics experts conducted various procedures in the room before the body was removed.
