Taxi driver shot dead on Colonial Avenue after dropping off passengers
Alejandro Temoche Valdez, aged 32, was shot and killed on Colonial Avenue in Cercado de Lima after dropping off two women and a child at their destination, reported americatv.com.pe. The attack occurred a few blocks from the intersection with Universitaria Avenue as the victim continued his route.
Witnesses indicated that the driver had travelled approximately half a block when a red vehicle cut him off. An armed man exited the car and fired several times at Temoche Valdez, hitting him in the face and chest. The taxi driver died inside his own vehicle.
The National Police identified the victim during initial proceedings and noted that he had an active arrest warrant for the crime of receiving stolen goods. His family members, however, rejected any link to illegal activities.
"He did not do collective routes, did not do anything like that. [...] He was on a trip, he had just arrived two months ago," declared one of his relatives at the crime scene.
The family members also maintained that Temoche Valdez had not received prior threats and that he worked independently as a taxi driver. One of them asked that the authorities investigate the facts before attributing any criminal conduct to him.
National Police officers gathered evidence on Colonial Avenue to identify the person responsible for the attack. Although the crime occurred in Cercado de Lima, officers from Callao also participated in the investigation work.
The case fell under the charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (Depincri) of Callao, which must determine the motive for the murder and the exact circumstances in which it occurred. So far, the identification and apprehension of the person who fired the shots has not been reported.
