University student stabbed to death in San Juan de Lurigancho whilst resisting robbery

Flor Margarita Bolívar Pinares, 20, a psychology student, was killed by knife wounds on jirón Berlín in the 5 de Noviembre housing estate in San Juan de Lurigancho, whilst returning from university to the room she rented in the area. According to infobae.com, the young woman attempted to resist the robbery and the attacker wounded her in various parts of her body. Following the attack, she advanced several metres calling for help before losing consciousness and dying at the scene.
A security camera recorded Bolívar Pinares walking along the street with takeaway food. Approximately 15 seconds later, a man wearing a cap, shirt and shorts appeared behind her and began to follow her. The subject approached her to rob her belongings; upon finding resistance, he drew a knife and attacked her.
Two motorcycle taxis under scrutiny in investigation
The case fell under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department of Canto Rey (Depincri Canto Rey). Officers are gathering images from security cameras installed in the area, statements from witnesses and evidence found at the crime scene.
Authorities are also analysing the presence of at least one motorcycle taxi recorded in the vicinity of jirón Berlín. Neighbours indicated that this type of vehicle had been seen previously in other criminal incidents in the area.
The victim's sister, interviewed by Exitosa, expanded on that information. "There are two motorcycle taxis, one that passes and another motorbike waiting for her on the corner. A blue motorbike and the white motorbike that is there", she stated. Police are seeking to determine whether the attacker acted alone or had accomplices; so far, the family indicated that they do not know the whereabouts of the main suspect.
The family demands that the case be classified as aggravated robbery
Bolívar Pinares' sister recounted that she was alerted during the early morning hours. "The night watchmen warned me at two or three in the morning that my sister was in bad condition", she told Exitosa. Upon checking her mobile phone, she contacted a night watchman worker, who provided her with the number of the police officer in charge of the case.
Flor Margarita was originally from Cotabambas, in the Apurímac region, and had lived in Lima for three years. She had two years remaining to complete her psychology degree, according to her sister.
In light of the violence used in the attack, the family demands that the investigation be classified as aggravated robbery. "I ask that justice be done for my sister and that it be changed from a simple robbery to aggravated robbery", the victim's sister said to the same media outlet.
Proceedings continue in San Juan de Lurigancho. Family members hope that analysis of the cameras and other evidence will allow them to identify those responsible and clarify whether other people participated in the crime.
