Flor Margarita Bolívar Pinares, a 20-year-old Psychology student, was murdered in the early hours of a weekday on Jirón Berlín, one block from the 5 de Noviembre housing complex where she rented a room, according to willax.pe. The attack occurred a short distance from the Bayóvar station of Line 1 of the Lima Metro.
The young woman was returning from her evening classes and had purchased food when a man armed with a knife intercepted her to rob her of her mobile phone. Flor Margarita struggled, cried out for help and attempted to retain the device. Faced with her resistance, the assailant delivered a fatal stab wound to her neck before fleeing along the same route.
Security cameras captured the final moments
Security cameras in the area recorded the victim's final journey. The footage shows the young woman walking alone; fifteen seconds later, a man wearing a cap, shirt and shorts began following her at a brisk pace until he caught up with her.
After the attack, Flor Margarita managed to advance several metres, calling for help from neighbours, but she lost consciousness and died on the street. Shortly afterwards, the same surveillance video captured the passage of a mototaxi which, according to witnesses in the area, may be linked to repeated robberies in the zone.
The family learned the news through a Serenazgo message
The news reached her relatives during the early hours through a message from the Serenazgo sent to the mobile phone of one of her sisters, accompanied by a photograph confirming her death.
A native of Cotabamba, Apurímac, Flor Margarita had arrived in Lima three years earlier with the aim of becoming a psychologist. She had two more years to complete her degree and was planning to return to her home region to work with vulnerable children.
Her relatives describe her as a cheerful person and deeply devoted to her loved ones. One day before the attack, the young woman had posted a reflection on her social media accounts that today resonates with particular weight: "We worry so much about the future, not knowing if there will be a tomorrow".
Neighbours report threats and demand security
Residents of Jirón Berlín expressed their fear about the proliferation of criminals and individuals with substance abuse problems in the surroundings of the Bayóvar station. Several of them also indicated that they have received direct threats to prevent them from filing formal complaints.
The investigation was assigned to the Depincri Canto Rey. Agents are analysing the video footage collected to identify the perpetrator of the crime and trace the registration plate of the mototaxi indicated by witnesses. The victim's family are demanding the immediate capture of the person responsible so that the homicide does not go unpunished.
