112 wanted individuals arrested in Lublin Province within two days
Police from the Lublin garrison have arrested 112 persons wanted by courts and prosecutors. Among them are a married couple from Subcarpathia who have been in hiding for years and an escaped prisoner from the detention facility in Chełm.
"Wanted" operation in Lublin Province: 112 people apprehended in two days
Lublin police officers arrested 112 persons wanted on the basis of arrest warrants and summons issued by courts and prosecutors over a two-day period, according to RMF24.
During the operation, officers checked over 1,200 locations and addresses, including over 80 facilities inhabited by foreign nationals, such as hostels and temporary accommodation sites. Nine of those arrested were on wanted lists; the remainder included persons sentenced to custodial sentences or wanted for the purpose of establishing their whereabouts.
Among the most spectacular arrests was one carried out in Rzeszów, where a married couple from Subcarpathia was apprehended after years of evading the justice system. A 43-year-old woman, whilst running a business, entered into contracts for drawing up applications for EU grants, collected payments of several thousand zloty or down payments, and failed to fulfil her obligations to customers, according to Anna Kamola of Lublin police. Losses are estimated at several hundred thousand zloty.
At the moment of arrest, the woman attempted to simulate a heart attack. As police officers recount, "medics quickly ruled out her health concerns, authorising her detention". She was sent to a prison for 11 months; further sentences may soon be brought against her. Her 42-year-old husband will face charges for fraud similar to those committed by his wife.
Among those arrested was also a 33-year-old resident of Łaszczów municipality, wanted on an arrest warrant since 2023 for escape from an open-ended detention facility in Chełm. The man, convicted of non-payment of alimony, fled while working outside the prison walls. After a year in hiding, he was caught and returned to custody.
The entire operation was coordinated by the Department of Search and Identification of Persons at the Provincial Police Headquarters in Lublin. Police officers announced the continuation of similar operations, emphasising that persons evading the justice system "cannot feel safe from prosecution".
