17-year-old arrested for "police officer" scam – 50,000 zlotys recovered
Police in Mogilno detained a 17-year-old who defrauded an 83-year-old pensioner from Inowrocław of 50,000 zlotys. The court imposed a two-month custodial remand on the suspect.

According to police.pl, on Wednesday 27 May 2026, an 83-year-old resident of Inowrocław received a phone call from a woman posing as a police officer. The caller convinced the pensioner that money kept at home was at risk in connection with an anti-fraud operation, and instructed her to place cash on the doormat in the stairwell. The woman complied with the instructions and left 50,000 zlotys – the entirety of her savings – outside her door. When she realised she had become a victim of a crime, she immediately notified the police.
A few hours later, on the same day, a traffic patrol from Mogilno stopped a Mercedes in the town of Wiecanowo for driving without dipped headlights switched on. The driver ignored light and sound signals and subsequently attempted to flee. On a bend in the road, he lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch. There were two men in the car – the passenger turned out to be the "receiver" of the cash from Inowrocław and had the stolen money on him.
The driver fled the scene after first attacking one of the police officers with gas. In the course of further investigative actions, it was established that the Mercedes was equipped with number plates belonging to another vehicle, and narcotics were found inside.
The detained 17-year-old was charged with fraud. On Friday 29 May 2026, the court upheld a police and prosecution motion, imposing a two-month custodial remand on the suspect. The sentence for this crime carries a maximum penalty of 8 years' imprisonment. Actions aimed at detaining the second man are still ongoing, and the case is still developing.
