The District Court in Kartuzy has decided to remand in custody the underage driver who caused a tragedy in the town of Mściszewice in Kashubia over the past weekend. The 17-year-old was driving a Volkswagen Passat vehicle after having consumed alcohol and without holding a licence to drive.

A peer of the perpetrator died as a result of the incident. He was on the roof of the car during the journey. The accident occurred on Saturday evening.

Investigators established that the teenager got behind the wheel of the Passat after consuming alcohol. Additionally, he did not hold any licence to drive motor vehicles. His passenger, also 17 years old, decided to go on a dangerous ride on the body of the car.

As a result of the high-speed driving, a tragedy occurred. The teenager being transported on the roof of the vehicle died at the scene. The circumstances of the incident are currently being clarified by officers from the Kartuzy police headquarters together with the prosecutor's office.

The court agreed with the prosecutor's request to apply the most severe preventive measure. The 17-year-old driver has been remanded in custody for three months. He faces up to 12 years in prison for causing an accident resulting in death.
