According to dolnoslaska.policja.gov.pl, the incident occurred on Sunday, 24 May in Jelczu-Laskowice. The duty officer at the command post received a report of a man who had fired two shots from an object resembling a firearm in the direction of bystanders and then fled the scene.

Officers from Oława took action and apprehended the suspect within several hours. During investigation activities at the scene, uniformed officers established that the 47-year-old resident of Oława district had used a blank-firing gun, which does not require a permit.

The man threatened to kill four people. As investigators established, he had no prior contact with them. Both immediately after his apprehension and during subsequent procedural actions, the 47-year-old was unable to explain the motives for his behaviour.

The evidence gathered provided grounds for charging the man with making unlawful threats against four people on grounds of their nationality. The prosecutor imposed police supervision on the suspect. The case will soon go to court, and the perpetrator faces a sentence of up to 5 years imprisonment.

Police remind the public that crimes motivated by hatred are severely punished and there is no tolerance for intimidation, hate speech or aggression towards other people.
